LENNY DEE
1. How old were you when you first started DJ’ing and when did you turn pro?
I started out when I was about 15/16, had my first real gig at 17 with a residency at the Roll A Palace in Brooklyn that year and I have never had another job since. I have been DJ’ing and producing the whole time.
2. Can you remember the first record you ever bought?
First record I ever bought was ‘Savage Lover’ by The Ring. The first record I was ever given was ‘Saturday Night Fever’.
3. Which do you prefer using, CDs or vinyl?
Vinyl, no question. I would rather use the real vinyl, than something that feels like it.
4. You have racked up more air miles that Richard Bransons Virgin Airlines so tell us, which country in your opinion has the best party atmosphere?
I just have to say fuckin’ Scotland has the best atmosphere in the planet. If you can get past the rain and booze its all good!! hehe
5. What is the most memorable party that you have played at and why?
The most memorable has to be Mayday 2 in Germany, as it was the first party that I got to play out a real hardcore set and my first ISR record (Mescalinum United ISR001). It showed me the core was alive!!
6. After all these years of playing to thousands of people week in week out, do you still get nervous before going out on stage?
Yes I do, without a doubt.
7. Apart from myself (obviously) which DJ have you not yet played with but would like too?
I have played with some of the greats, that is for sure. At this point I nobody really springs to mind. Actually the Prodigy would be dope.
8. Which is your favourite track you have made and why?
My favourite has to be ‘Blood Of An English Muffin’, as it really reflects on a really happy time for me as a producer. I can think of better selling ones, but this one is kind of special for me.
9. What else do you have planned for 2009?
I have just released my new mix CD ‘Ballad Of The Broken Turntable’ on Psychik Genocide, which was mixed using vinyl only. I am currently working on my solo album, which will hopefully be released later this year or early 2010 at the latest. It’s going to be a cool mix of different style traxx from fast to slow. It will feature solo trax, plus loads of new collaborations, with people like Unexist, Satronica, DJ Narotic, Kiew etc, also a new video of Tekno Killler. It will be a mash up of sound for sure and I’ve had a lot of fun making it.
We just released EPs from Broken Rules and Sandy Warez and have releases planned on Industrial Strength and IST from people like Satronica (including his album), Unexist, Tymon, Liquid Blasted etc. And we’re also also moving into different areas of music production, for example sound design. We are going to try and build our own VST.
10. How much are you looking forward to coming back up to Aberdeen after being away from the North East of Scotland in around 12 years (yes, I HAVE been counting!!!)
I am ready, I have been counting them too. I had many a good night up north, especially at the Fusion parties, even though it’s all a blur!!
Thank you VERY much for taking the time to do this questionnaire. Everyone will LOVE it and we are looking forward to seeing you very soon!
